Peripheral Neuropathy Pain Healed with Nerve Surgery

Karolee is a teacher who came home every day with aching feet from her Peripheral Neuropathy. She was also suffering from numbness and burning and could not enjoy her active lifestyle. Dr. Demetrio Aguila is a peripheral nerve surgeon who can eliminate pain with nerve surgery. He is one of a few surgeons in the U.S. trained to help patients with a permanent surgical solution to their Neuropathy pain. Here is Karolee just weeks after surgery with Dr. Aguila.

Piriformis Syndrome Pain Relieved with Peripheral Nerve Surgery

Joseph is an avid runner who was experiencing sciatica pain shooting down his leg. For seven years he chased down a diagnosis and tried many different treatments, none of which were successful. Then he found Dr. Demetrio Aguila, one of a handful of Peripheral Nerve Surgeons in the U.S. trained to remove his piriformis muscle thereby releasing the compression on the sciatic nerve. Watch Joseph’s journey back to health.

Joseph’s Story Piriformis Syndrome – Pain in the Buttocks “I love to run but when I was in college I started having pain in the buttocks. It got so bad that I had tingling in my toes at work and I thought I must do something. I had to quit everything and that is frustrating for an active guy. It was to the point where living was a bear.” Joseph tried to find a treatment, but no one could help “Twelve physicians later we still did not have an answer. We tried physical therapy, chiropractor, massage, and everything else. Seven years in I am like what am I going to do?” As an ER physician, Joseph’s father had heard about Dr. Demetrio Aguila, a Peripheral Nerve Surgeon. Dr. Aguila is one of a handful of peripheral nerve surgeons in the United States who focus on relieving chronic pain through nerve surgery. Within five minutes of examining him, Dr. Aguila was able to give Joseph something that had eluded him for seven years and dozens of doctors – a diagnosis. “He walked in and he said to me, I am 80% sure I know what you have.” Joseph had piriformis syndrome, a condition when the sciatic nerve is compressed by the piriformis muscle. Dr. Aguila surgically removed Joseph’s Piriformis Muscle, a procedure only a few doctors in the U.S. are trained to do. Joseph is back to running and living his life to the fullest. “I am thrilled to be back running. It is such a blessing that I can function much less compete.” He has this advice for anyone suffering from back or sciatica pain. “Fly into Norfolk to have Dr. Aguila examine you. I know what it feels like to be hopeless. It has been a blessing to work with Dr. Aguila and his team. I owe them a debt that I can never repay.”

Carpal Tunnel Release with Ultrasound Guidance – Lisa’s story

Lisa’s story is a familiar one for patients with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Pain was bothering her all day and keeping her up at night. She needed surgery but didn’t want to endure the downtime of a hospital stay and traditional Carpal Tunnel Surgery.

Luckily her mom found a solution on Facebook – Carpal Tunnel Release with Ultrasound Guidance. Watch how Lisa became the 58th CTR Success Story for Dr. Demetrio Aguila.

“I had done everything that I knew how to do. I had gone to Chiropractor, massage, etc. I had the EMG from the typical doctor and then she said had referred me to a surgeon.

On Facebook my mom found your ad and so I decided to explore it and that is what led me here today.”

The downtime associated with traditional Carpal Tunnel surgery forced her to explore other possibilities. “I am a teacher, and I didn’t want to wait until school started and then have to miss six weeks of school, so this was an excellent option for me.”

Lisa traveled from Griswold, Iowa to have the procedure and was impressed with the Healing Hands team from Dr. Aguila to the rest of the staff. “They are all amazing, like this place is amazing they are having fun they love what they do they are smiling. He talked the whole time all the way through explained what he was doing showed me different measurements so I would understand even more. He pointed out things on the ultrasound, I mean he could not have been more accommodating. It was like he was teaching me how to do it.”

Here’s Lisa immediately after CTR with ultrasound guidance. “Awesome yup my hands are a little tingly but that’s just because of the numbing agent and I assume I’ll be good to go because nothing really hurts.”

The future is brighter day and night. “I could not sleep all night because I would wake up in pain so I’m excited that I might be able to sleep all night and they said usually it happens the first night so that is that is exciting. You know exactly what is happening every second from the ultrasound to when he does the surgery. He is so excited you can tell that he is excited to solve your problem. I would recommend this procedure to anyone.”

Tubes Under Local Anesthesia for Ear Infections

One year old Madelyn was suffering from chronic ear infections. Her parents Annie and Scott had horrible experiences when their other kids had ear tubes. Annie learned about a new breakthrough called TULA – tubes under local anesthesia. TULA is a much less invasive procedure than traditional ear tubes. Dr. Demetrio Aguila is one of only a few surgeons worldwide offering TULA and in a stroke of good luck, he was in her home state of Nebraska.

Annie and Scott took one year old Madelyn to see Dr. Aguila because of her chronic ear infections.

Dr. Aguila is one of only a handful of surgeons in the country offering TULA – tubes under local anesthesia.

Annie learned about this exciting new technology through her profession.

Annie: I am a speech language pathologist at a school. When I learned about TULA I thought it sounded super cool. I did not think we would have the TULA option in Nebraska. I thought it was a coastal thing. We were so excited when we found out it was offered in our home state.

Dr. Aguila: Our practice is all about finding better ways to do everything. Our practice is known for being unconventional and TULA is a perfect fit for our philosophy here.

Annie and Scott had had problems when their other kids had ear tubes the traditional way – in the hospital, under general anesthesia and away from mom and dad.

Annie: Our oldest son he had tubes and then our third child had repeat tubes and so for him the first ones did not take well and so we had to go back and redo them within a few months which was kind of discouraging.

TULA with Dr. Aguila was a much better experience on every level.

Annie: We were with her every step of the way and she was with mom and dad which is great that we did not have to separate and did not have to stand behind the door as the nurse takes them away and they are confused about what is going on.

Two months after TULA Madelyn is a different child.

Annie: No fevers we are not having issues with antibiotics we are at daycare we are at work we are having sleeping so she’s sleeping through the night that’s probably the biggest difference she’s sleeping so well she’s happier she can hear, all good things.

Annie is spreading the word about TULA to everyone she knows.

Annie: There’s a great place in Norfolk, Nebraska called the Healing Hands that you should totally call and check to see what they can do for you. I love being able to tell my colleagues that this is an option for students in the public schools that they serve that this is an awesome consideration that they should consider and let them know about.

We are just grateful that this could go the way it did and that she is able to have that relief.

First Surgery at Millard Family Hospital

Dr. Demetrio Aguila shares his excitement in performing the first surgery at Millard Family Hospital, a neighborhood hospital in Omaha, Nebraska fully equipped for surgery. Dr. AGuila was inspired by their mission of making healthcare accessible, personal and transparent.

Ear Tubes Under Local Anesthesia

Dr. Aguila is one of a few surgeons in the U.S. now offering TULA, tubes under local anesthesia. In this video he demonstrates how the procedure works in the doctor’s office without the cost or inconvenience of a hospital or general anesthesia. TULA is a simple, affordable and accessible option for kids and adults who need ear tubes as a result of frequent ear infections.

Dr. Demetrio Aguila demonstrates in this video:

We are going to show you exactly how TULA works with this little model patient that we have here now

The procedure is simple. This is the device that

we used to put the tube in. This has a tube in it right now.

I am going to show you how that works.

Normally I have magnification loops on which allow me to see a higher magnification.

I look in there after the child has had his or her ears appropriately anesthetized. They are made nice and numb I put the device in here like this and I press the button boom tube’s in that’s, it all done!

This training model has in it a simulated eardrum and there you can see the tube right in the simulated eardrum. TULA is simple, easy, convenient, affordable

and accessible.

What more can you ask for?
